Elephant Skin Chess Board - Chess Forums

Hi,

I Have an Elephant Skin chess board bought in South Africa about 35 Years ago. It comes with a complete set of Onix Pieces.

Does anyone have any idea as to the value of this?, i do not play chess, so have no idea lol.

Is that legal? I know buying and selling ivory is illegal, at least in the US, though it's legal to possess it if you already own it. Given that the point of the ivory ban is to prevent elephant hunting for their tusks, I can imagine that elephant skin would fall under the same ban.

I have no idea, but my guess would be around $200-300.

It would help if you could present an image of this set in a separate post.

well it was bought over 30 years ago when it wasnt illegal, and im from Northern Ireland so the same rules dont apply " As much"..i hope.. ll try and hoke it out for pics.. it was put away years ago.

I was sort of hoping it would be worth thousands, considering the whole illegal OMG its an elepant factor

There was a website that may have been selling chess boards made out of animal skins. However the website was shut down. Your guess is as good as any as to why.
