Hi Folks,
Another newbie. Last fall I started collecting chess sets, & I'm working my way through some books so as to learn how to play the game. So far, I've finished Reuben Fine's The World's Great Chess Games & now I'm going through Irving Chernev's The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played. Good stuff.
I've found that switching between the different chess sets really adds to the pleasure of playing out the games. You get a different experience playing with a Russian Staunton than with an Isle of Lewis set. The vintage plastic figural sets are a lot of fun, too. I like the Kingsway Florentine, which is a copy of a very old, historical set, with elephant rooks.
