Hey there,
My Name is Brett Beeman from Florida and I just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself before I invade the rest of the forums.
I'm a sophomore in college and currently hold a part-time customer service position at my local grocery store. In my spare time I partake in Civil War reenacting, as well as bowling, reading, and book collecting. I have a personal collection consisting of almost 1000 individual works.
I started my chess Career as a junior in high school and have never really been great at the game. I lose most of my games, but still managed to place second in my first scholastic chess tournament. I've never really done some hard looking into chess strategy, and what I do take a look at confuses me. Recently I've taken to correspondence chess over severs rather than over the board play. I'm by far a quick thinker and don't like a clock staring me down. Plus I never have to leave the house for tournaments! While the game mechanics can sometimes boggle me I find the game itself fascinating. Just like math it unites people from all over the globe. I guess you could say I'm into the social aspect of chess more than anything else. I will never make master, I may never even achieve a balanced W/L record, but some of the conversations I've had with people from the other side of the world are incredible. It's amazing how a game can bring two people together, even if they cannot speak to one another.
I'm not quite sure how to end this so I'll close it out here as I'm off to go browse the rest of the forum and maybe figure out why chess theory eludes me. Look forward to chatting with y'all!
