Hi Everyone
I'm very new to chess (my girlfriend and I where trying to figure out what to do on a tuesday night last week and ended up buying a chess set and kind of teaching ourselves) anyway turns out we both really enjoy playing chess
So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good chess computer to help us learn and/or some recommended reading.

Please keep in mind that we are both very much beginners

Thank You in advance for any help and I look forward to soaking up as much info/tips as I can to improve my game (and use it to beat the girlfriend )

The usual recommendation for complete beginners is the book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess" by Patrick Wolff. Apparently, it really is significantly better than "Chess for Dummies" and other similar beginner's books that cover the rules, introductions to strategy, and some history.

Also, the Chessmaster series of computer games are very good for beginners.

Welcome! And I agree with the Chessmaster recommendation! Here is a short review of the game, which costs only about twenty bucks at any software store .

I will pick up a couple copies of chessmaster (one for myself and one for the girlfriend) I will also try to find a copy of "idiot's chess"
Although admmitedly I did kinda jump the gun and already get this book

Welcome aboard. Well, the best way to beat anyone in chess is to play better chess naturally. Which is pretty obvious of course, it's the application of that which is interesting.
