I live in Canada.
I played as a teenager in the '80s and stopped playing with a 1470s rating. I returned to play 12 years later with one tournament in 1999, several in 2000-01, a one or two a year since then. I got married in 2002 and we had a child in 2003 which has curtailed much of my tournament play.
My rating has currently peaked in the 1670s. To date most productive form of study has been tactical problems using both books and CT-ART in a disciplined fashion loosely based on the approach advocated by Michael De La Maza.
When I returned to chess I began searching used bookstores in the hunt for chessbooks. I have amassed a few hundred which I am starting to plow through using a "solitaire chess" approach. I am currently reading Simple Chess by Michael Stean. Cecil Purdy is one of my favorite chess authors.
I play online at ICC, Redhotpawn, Queenalice (since joining this forum), Itsyourturn, and Brainpawn.
