Omg the algebra in there is so complicated.

I think it is through that DESCRIPTIVE CHESS NOTATION or something could be wrong tho.

For eg. First game in the intro!!!

1. P-K4 1. P-K4
2. P-KB4 2. PxP
3. Kt-KB3 3. P-KKt4
4. B-B4 4. P-Kt5

etc etc how on earth do you read that???? Whoever has the book will know what im on about!!

My version is in algebraic notation, which I definitely prefer.

You can pick up a version in modern algebraic notation.

If I'm right, this would be the translation:

1.e4 e5
2.f4 exf4
3.Nf3 f5


OK, now I'm lost. It took me long enough to figure out algebraic notation and I still screw that up from time to time.

It's 1 e4 e5 2 f4 exf4 3 Nf3 g5 4 Bc4 g4, not 3 ... f5. Such a typo could really confuse Peek-A-Boo.

not only the typo would have been your problem, but one strong player (maybe i can mention his name here, GM Matthew Sadler he is, hehe..) recommended that for us to improve our chess vision (eliminate blunders and see the wider board!) we should by heart memorize (is this the right term?) every square on the board...just like even without a board you could tell how a knight on c4 can reach f6 via d3.hehe...

You get used to it surprisingly fast, I recently read a book on descriptive notations and it only took about 5 games before I got used to it.

Once you learn one kind of notations, the others come pretty easy.

I know descriptive, but I still hate it with a passion.

There is a newer, algebraic version out. Check either Amazon.com or Ebay. Or, you could get a PGN version of all the games in "My System".

Some old Chess Books used to have a notation page in an assortment of languages.

Note that many McKay, (and probably the London affiliate), Dover and other
publishers printed Chess Books in Descriptive Notation.

Allegedly Bobby Fischer only used descriptive notation.
