GM Akobian has graciously offered to play the users of Chessforums.org in a correspondence match. Chessforums.org will have white in this game, GM Akobian will have black. The time control for both sides will be roughly one move per week. Time saved will not be carried forward.
I will act as team captain for this game on behalf of Chessforums.org, only myself and GM Akobian will have ‘flagging rights’.

Candidate moves & voting
In the first round of voting, the candidate moves are selected. All users get to vote once, posting the move they want to see played next in this thread. If after five days any move receives 50% or more, this move will be selected and played without a second round of voting.
If no move has 50% or more, I will select the most significant candidate moves for a second round of voting. This will take place in a poll, which I will edit each move, also in this thread. The move that receives the most votes in the poll after two more days (ammounting to a total 7 days) will be selected and played.
The move that is selected and played will be posted in the game thread (which you will find by clicking here: Chessforums.org - GM Varuzhan Akobian (Game) ).

Purpose of this thread
The purpose of this thread is voting and discussion. All rounds of voting and all discussion goes here.
When it is white to move, you have to post your candidate move in this thread. Please include the word vote for your move of choice. "I vote <move>" would do nicely, so for instance, say: "I vote 2. d4", if you want to see d4 on move 2. If there is no clear winner (50% or more) after five days and we move to a second round of voting; vote by using the poll which I will edit.

I used to start 1. d4 with the intent of playing the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit. I don't do that any more, and I don't know how to handle anything else that comes up against 1. d4, so I'm sticking to what I know. I voted 1. e4, since that's what I always use.
