I am planning to do an endgame work out to improve my endgame play. I have been reading Pandolfini's Endgame course and I plan to set up the endgame positions I studied (or finished topics), save it on pgn format, play (prolly both sides) against a strong engine, and win with lowest possible moves. And then repeat.

Also, I have been looking through the positions on chesskit.com (training>endgame) and also considering the positions there as they already grouped the important positions.

I will start first with King Pawn Endgames. Then proceed to more complicated ones.

I believe that this will be a good training as I will be more exposed to the patterns especially on King Pawn endgames. I will try to alternate this with tactics training.

That's my plan. I'm not sure if I will be consistent with it. Hopefully I will. Do you guys have suggestions to better improve this? Do you have another resource of endgame positions? Schedule?

The have endgame puzzles, with to different modes:
- Theory mode forces you to play the fastest line to mate, if you play a move that is not one of the moves that leads most quickly to mate (and there may be more than one), then you will be asked to try again.
- Practice mode differs from theory mode, in that it does not force you to follow the optimal line. You can play any move you like, including moves which dramatically increase the number of moves required to mate. Practice mode can be useful for practicing endgames in a manner closer to how you would play over the board, and can be less frustrating than being forced to play optimal moves at each point.

Engines may not play these endings well without tablebases installed. You can check out the accurate results of ANY 6-piece or less endgame by going to the Shredder chess site and putting the position in their endgame database. Shredder Computer Chess Download - Endgame Database

Just make sure you are familiar with triangulation, opposition and corresponding square theory. That should get you through K&P endings OK.

Of course knowledge is always good, but depending on your rating these subjects are important or not.

I recommend Silman's Complete Endgame Course, with chapters according to rating levels. So if you are a C-class players, you need only to read an learn (!) chapters class E-D-C:
- Triangulation is covered in chapter class B.
- Opposition is covered in chapter class E (Basic knowledge!)
- Corresponding squares is not in the book index. I think it's a very advanced topic.

Whoa, new favorite! That Pandolfini's Endgame Course is .cbv and works with Fritz! Nifty.

I would recommand Smirnov's endgame course. Simple and effective.

Silman's endgame course, as already pointed out, is great too. It depends if you prefere books or video lessons.
