Well that sucked...another outage
Sorry guys, after our last impromptu move from the original hosting provider to one of my own servers - we stuck the site on a box that was "non-essential", meaning we weren't using it for much, so it seemed the perfect place to put a new website.
Unfortunately it also meant we weren't actively backing up the data either, so when it blew a hard drive this past friday, we were able to get a new server up and running the same day, but one of my systems guys had to go to work on the hard drive with a data recovery tool to bring back the data. That took a few days.
We're back, we're being backed up now, no more of these episodes. I mean it.

Hehe no problem man, we all learn as we go! This is my favorite chess forum, though, so I sure hope it doesn't disappear!
good work on a quick recovery! I appreciate the effort so that we may use these boards!

Upgrading systems seems to never be a painless procedure! Nice work on the data recovery.

Mark, it seems the FEN tool is no longer working. The diagrams don't show up and if I go back to edit my post, the [fen] entry isn't even there anymore.

I was quite concerned as I am quite fond of a number of posters here. If it does happen again everyone is more than welcome to hang out on OzChess until Chess Forums gets back online.
Now, for happier news. I found someone who could do it! Remember that old legend the former owner of Chess Forums used to tell us about a pgn viewer coming here. Brace yourselves people - you'll enjoy this!
Stuntpope, I would see no reason why he couldn't install the same thing here if you want, both our forums use Vbulletin. Please let me know, and I can put you in touch.
Best Regards,
AO
