Folks, it's been awhile since I took over this board and I know I've been somewhat of an absentee landlord, which is something I apologize for.
One of the reasons, quite frankly is my realization that 95% of the discussion on this board takes place at a level above my own competency level in chess. I love the game, I'm nowhere near as good at it as everybody else on this board. I had hoped that taking over the board would give me some impetus to devote time to improving my game, but with Hurricane Emily in the picture (my 2-year old), it just hasn't happened.
The development plans with Sandro, my former partner on this, officially fell through a few weeks back. So I am back to square one on adding features to the board, but all things considered, the signal-to-noise ratio here is still quite good and this board seems to function well as a plain jane discussion board. There's nothing wrong with that.
But I'd still like to add nifty features. I had a few ideas to enable realtime correspondence chess games using some kind of PHPchess driven clients sending moves back and forth via jabber. It's just finding the time to do it, or biting the bullet and hiring somebody to code it.
On an admin side, I've decided to move the board to one of my own servers. I left it where it was when I originally bought it from Greg, but lately we've been hitting bandwidth quotas and the SEO plugin for the vbulletin skin seems to occasionally run-away, eating up the CPU and degrading performance for the other shared hosting clients here. So it's time to bring this inside my own infrastructure where I won't have these problems. I'll post a separate thread when it comes time to move.
