FEN Notation in the forums - Chess Forums

I think that implementing Fen coding might be of benefit to you and the members here. It's a visual basic tagging system which allows boards to be placed inside posts. A site I'm involved with has it inside it's forums, and online programs exist to easily convert PGN to Fen positions. This would definitely help the openings and strategy sections, and allow better analysis of positions in future.

I have been looking around to see what the best option is regarding the Fen notation and diagrams, as you have experience in this area, which of these two would be better... (or do you know of any others?)

Hey Greg

Did the FEN thingie work yet? To get it to work for total FENs too, you need to add something like $bla = explode("textbetweentags", " "); and $fen = $bla[0];. If you're having problems, you know how to contact me

Now it has the great abaility to post Chess Diagrams, I think this forum should also have a Puzzles Section. First of all, because puzzles are the best thing in chess

and second of all, because we can then use the extremely nice FEN Viewer mr Phob made

As you can still see now, Greg hasn't updated the color of the text and border of the board yet

I guess he'll do that as soon as he comes back.

I'm also working on a chess script now. Maybe it's useful for this forum too, but I'm first trying to get it to work for now

I already taught the script to turn a FEN string into a board, and see which moves are legal in certain positions. It already knows check (check's very annoying

) and rules like en passant, but haven't implemented the promotion yet, and from time to time I find some bugs here and there
