Hi. I have only been a member for a short time but I think this site is great!

From almost my first posting I have gained advice from highly accomplished players.

I have been advertising the site on FICS

My suggestion - I noticed that this server doesn't remeber log in info. So members need to log in everytime they connect. Additionally it doesnt have a very high idle time tolerence. I think these two factors contribute to the current situation where you will often find a couple of members, but many guests present. I would be willing to bet that a decent percentage of those guests are actually members who have either surpassed the maxium idle time or they are members who don't bother to log in unless they have something to say. If you changed this; the amount of members present would appear greater thus the site would become more attractive.

I think that this site has occupied a solid niche. In a similar way that FICS became the premium free chess playing site, I think that chessforums can become the premium free chess forums site.

I have been a (non paying) member of chessgames.com for many years. I watched the site grow mainly due to the permanant community that formed itself there. I think that the same thing can happen here.

Anyway I want to thank the people responsible for the existance of chessforums.org - you have created a really nice site that I am happy to share with my chessfriends.

The issues you mention regarding logging in don't exist for me. It remembers me each time, have you changed your cookie settings?

Oh, I only use public computers - and because they dont remember me I assumed that this was the case across the board. Chessgames.com remembers me when I return to a computer that I have previously used.

Anyway I am obviously wrong about this so plz disregard my comments on the matter

It only logs me in after I enter one of the subforums. Other forums log me in as soon as I hit the site.

ADD: And thats at my home and work PCs, for both cases.

I'm always logged in. Every time I hit any part of the site, it logs me in automatically.

Yep, I'm "guilty" of that. I clean out my temporary folders and cookies a lot when I surf the web....more of a "housekeeping habit" then any security concerns or anything. But, if we all log-in, it would be interesting to see the true full list of who the daily members are... and it would be noticed by potential future members- like you say Persona non grata.
