Hi everyone,

Please use this thread to post your interest in playing a correspondence game in the forums, we will use this as a thread to match players up for new games,

Alternatively please feel free to arrange games with other forum members via Private Messages.

When setting up new games, please ensure the member who will be updating the FEN diagram creates the thread, so the diagram is in the first post and become an automatic sticky post (Auto sticky posts in Correspondence and Puzzle sections)

I'm looking to play more correspondence games where we discuss the moves during the game, I think it's a really good idea. If anyone wants to play me just pm or reply to this post. Black or white doesn't matter

One thing I enjoy playing, although it is hard to find opponents willing to do so, is what I call Rewind games.

Gunderam and Diemer used to play such games by correspondence, arguing a particular opening variation until one was satisified that the analysis was correct, that is black or white was clearly better/winning, and they would then "rewind" the game to a critical point to see if something else might work better.

It would seem to me that this would be a way to learn an opening in depth - through the middlegame to potential endgame, and with the "rewind" possibility, players would be more willing to try something risky. And the score becomes something more of a tournament score, the player with the most "wins" and fewest requested "rewinds" wins!

And such a method would lend itself well also to the kind of analysis requested here.

I'm willing to play people in rewind games, if they are... We just need to agree on what opening we will argue!

DoctorD I like your idea. If you like we can start one game with each color. If you like we could play a marshall attack in the lopez with me as black. As white I usually play 1.e4 and I'm willing to play against anything you like.

I only have one question... if you can re-wind then how do you claim a win? Chess has more variations then the stars in the universe and the game could go on for some time

I don't exactly think we are going to have time to solve the game.

Anyway, the format is good because it doesn't matter if you give variations to your opponent etc. I guess it would be allowed to use databases, computers and other stuff too since this is more of a theoretical excersise?

We can work out the details in private... I've never played the Ruy as White, I am more of a King's Gambit type.... but I am sure we can agree.

Basically, once a player asks for a rewind, that counts as a win. If a player is too stubborn to ask for a rewind, then the other side can ask for an adjudication, which counts as a win (if winning), and the other side is free to then rewind.

It of course requires something of a "Gentleman's Agreement" in playing. If someone can't leave his/her ego at the door (something required of all learning experiences, I think), then it just becomes an exercise in frustration.
