it depends; the berlin defence against the bishop opening looks quite nice, there are some fun d5 variations in the giuoco after Be7 instead of Bc5 in the two knights (after d3). I have been experimenting with white in these opening recently and black has to pay attention but he should be allright.

Hmm, I'd like to play the Modern Steinitz naturally, a Siësta if possible. Okay winning chances for black, not any less than in a Sicilian really.

I find the Bishop's opening more fun to play as black than as white, might be taste. As for the Giuoco, I'd avoid that altogether and go for the Two Knights.
Then again, I'm fairly sure my choices would be voted down.

I vote for e5.
I usually respond with c5, but it ends up transposing into the French Defense after 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 d5. Considering very few people are likely to play the French, I'm voting for e5, my second choice.

I personally prefer the Two Knights over the Giuoco. Two is twice as good as one!
Or, we could totally avoid the Ruy, GP, or the Scotch. Petroff, anyone?

You know anything about the Latvian Gambit? I'd be clueless as to proper procedure. It's too similar to the King's Gambit to me.

I'd even prefer 2. ... d5 frankly but I'd rather not. I'd be fine with a Scotch, but prefer the Ruy.

Well, assuming they play 2 Nf3, I'd recommend we go with 2...Nc6. I'm not really sold on the Latvian, and definitely don't want to see the Petroff's or Philador.

I'm against the Latvian and Philidor. The Petrov isn't to my taste really. Let's go for 2. Nf3 Nc6, enough options from there on.
