Im new to chess and I cannot for the life of me figure out this puzzle.
White is set up as follows:
Qb4
KingA3
BishopH3
BishopD6
knightF6
knightH7

Black is set up as follows:
pawnB5
PawnC4
Pawn E7
king E6
bishop F7

White's move, mate in 2. Someone please help me, it's driving me nuts.

You haven't said where Black's king is.

If, when you reply, you press the FEN button (the one on the left; there are two), you can create a diagram of the position.

It was supposed to say King E6. lol, sorry.

I thought that, but then [1...b4+], and it's no longer a mate-in-2. Unless the pawns move the other way (?).

I guess it's [1. Bxe7] followed by [2. Qd6#].

Couldn't black just move the bishop?

Maybe 1 Bg2. The threat is Bd5#, and if 1 ... cxd6 Qe1#


The one thing I hate about these puzzles is that White is winning so much that he doesn't need to find moves like Bg2. Just keep it simple.

Is this supposed to be the answer? I don't know what that means.

I think Octal's answer is correct:

1. Bg2 (with the threat of 2. Bd5#)

Do you understand that? If not, maybe this problem is a little too tough right now (it's not exactly the easiest mate-in-two ever!).
