I think that there are a number of satisfactory lines for black against the king's gambit. It is not an opening that makes black stay awake at night worrying about his response.
If I played 1.e4 as white, I would prefer the Ruy Lopez, Scotch Openings or even the Vienna game/gambit lines which seem to pose more problems for black.
