A similar sort of pattern exists in the Cunningham Defense to the KG, though that is with the bishop:
1. e4 e5 2. f4 exf4 3. Nf3 Be7 4. Bc4 Bh4+ 5. Kf1
The Modern Cunningham has taken over today with Nf6, focusing on development instead of hindering white with a check on h4. Similarly, people use the Keene defense with the immediate 2. ... Qh4+ 3. g3 which I never understood.
