I have been researching openings I can play against 1.d4 and I came across this opening. I think it gives black even chances and possible strong play with discoveries on the bishop and attacking queenside weaknesses. Also there is the possibility of white falling into the Elephant Trap. What are your opinions?

I mean it's a good defense, but white doesn't have to play into it w/ Nc3 and Bg5. Make sure you have a defense ready for the Catalan as well.

This would be one of my favorite defenses to 1.d4 if the exchange QGD didn't exist.

Unfortunately, there days it seems like everybody plays the exchange. I'm perfectly comfortable against the exchange, but it's so damn technical. I prefer being able to play actively, you know?

But with that caveat, I think that CS is a great weapon.

Perhaps a better move order to reach your setup would be:

1 d4 d5 2 c4 c6 3 Nc3 e6 4 Nf3 Nf6 5 Bg5 Nbd7 6 e3 Qa5
