I was thinking that it would be boring to go with one opening all the time, so would it be a good idea that as white I switch between the 4 knights, Ruy Lopez, Italian Game, and Scotch and try to play the 4 openings on black's side often?

Depending on your strength, I'd learn one at a time and if you wanted add the most different (Ruy) last. If you were already a strong player you could do more leaping as opposed to stepping.

Exposing yourself to a lot of different openings - NOT studying them, but merely mixing them up - can be a good idea, and can help you discover news ideas, and different things you like.

But don't get too caught up in classification. I mean, an exchange Ruy has almost nothing in common with a marshall attack, which has nothing in common with an open defense. Play through master games and as you see interesting ideas, explore them in your casual games.
