here is an ending i managed to save though i have had to think hard just how to 'salvage' the draw. i am not sure if my play was accurate enough but i think the most important theme here is that i focused on finding a drawing plan and i came up with: stalemate!
here i gave up the c-pawn:

1. Re8 Rxc3 2. Rxe5 Kh4 3. Ra8 Rc2+ 4. Kg1! g4 5. Ra3 he saw my idea so, Rc1+ 6.Kh2 g3+ 7.Rxg3 Rc2+ 8. Rg2 draw

how did your rook jump from e5 to a8?

Physically and legally impossible. Either e8 or a5. Since it moves to a3 later, it must be Ra5 and not Ra8.

yes, that was Ra5, sorry...

After Rxe5 is theorically draw.
When you have a g or h pawn in a rook ending you can put your king in front of the enemy pawn(g1) and your rook passively placed on the first rank and wait.
Another idea is the third rank defence that you used with Ra3 later in your game.

yes, thank you for bringing that up...i knew that in this type of ending, as long as my rook is mobile on the 3rd or 6th rank, cutting off the black king i am saved...thank goodness those endgame lessons stuck in my mind...
