I didn't have time to fully work this through - but doesn't Rd6 pose black some problems -as well as allow Rxe6+ at some point if black is careless? Then Bc4 and 0-0 to follow? I don't know what Fritz would think of it!

Where you going for the smothered mate here? What happens though if black threatens the queen with his pawns?

During the game, I wasn't even thinking smothered mate. That would have made too much sense.

If black had pushed his pawns, I'd just take them. The queen can capture on h6 if necessary, and if f6, then exf6. I actually would have been pretty happy with either of those at the time.
