Has anyone here read this book yet & if you have, can you give me a little review on it?

ah, no. I have wanted this book for a long time but it is fairly expensive.

"My Best Games" by Anatoly Karpov was published in 2007 by Edition Olms.

The book itself is a softcover, apears to be well bound and printed on good paper stock. There are no photographs except one on the back cover of very young looking Karpov and Kasparov with looks of antipathy for each other on their faces. Throughout the text there are ocassional gray boxes with anecdotal information, aparently writen by an editor. Again, at the begining of each of the 100 games Karpov has included anecdotal information about that particular game - either on the opponent or the venue. There are diagrams about every 14 ply or so.

Usualy the opening is listed with no comment and then the middle game is commented extensivly. Ocassionaly there are lines of variations - usualy 6 to 12 ply. Most of the comment is in prose. Endgames are listed without much comment.

The prose apears to be rather to the point - very positional and with Karpovs thought process, not much speculation about why an opponent played a move (unless fairly obvious) but with the reasons behind the responce. Of the common games writen in Kasparovs books the analysis by Karpov is to the point where Kasparov writes more "19th century romantic" style. Very different, not better or worse - just a matter of taste.

Should you pop the gelder for the book? Thats up to you, but I've enjoyed it and learned from it.
