There's a great new book out called Australian Chess Brilliancies: Creative Attacking Chess from Down Under.

The publisher is Kimberley Publications in Australia, and the author is Kevin Casey (a former Alaska State chess champ now living Down Under). The book contains 29 brilliancies in the main games section, plus about two dozen more brilliant supplementary games and positions scattered throughout the book. The price in Aussie money is $19.95, plus $7.90 postage and handling. With a really good exchange rate happening at the moment, this works out to be about 15 US dollars and another 5 or so to get it mailed to the US. This book is a bargain and a half!

Marketing your book? I've read this on several chess sites, and its kind of getting annoying, especially when your enthusiasm for the book is repeated word for word on each site. I don't want to seem like I'm flaming you, just gets kind of annoying, especially, assuming you are the author, to have you talk about yourself in the third person. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, it does seem that the author/publisher is just marketing the book by posting the same marketing info everywhere. Since it's a chess book, I personally don't mind a little spam, as long as it's honest. If you're the author and you come here to post "Check out my new book!", I wouldn't mind, and I might even be more inclined to ask you about the book and possibly check it out later. For instance, see David Rudel's posts here on CF about his Colle-Zukertort book. But pretending you have no connection to the book and posting like this just seems dishonest.

Firstly, yes, I am the author and publisher of this book. Yes, I am enthusiastic about it. If I'm not enthusiastic about my own book, how can I expect anybody else to be? But no, at no time have I "pretended to have no connection to the book". I thought the fact that I was the author was implied in my posts. If this was not clear, I humbly apologise.

As for writing about myself in the third person, I do this occasionally in the book as well... it's part of my writing style (and I'm certainly not the first chess author to do so). I also use words like "bamboozle-ectomy", invent new acronyms ("Icewacas - Instant Chess Experts With A Computer Analysis System") and proffer terms like "Black is mangled" and "Qe1 leads to a grisly demise", but I digress.

My intention was simply to let the chess playing public know of the existence of a new book. That was my first post. Subsequent posts were a response to MalQueen who wrote that no reviews were detectable on line yet - I responded by saying that this was because it takes a while for reviews to start coming through on a book that's less than two weeks old, and then I mentioned two reviews that had appeared. Once again, just short of dastardly, I would like to hope.

If posts of different forums appear suspiciously similar, it is probably because I am suspiciously busy (or suspiciously lazy), and felt that the one "promo" was adequate to get my point across - i.e. that there's a new book in town.
