Has it gone out of print?

Amazon.com shows it "Temporarily out of stock" but a marketplace seller has a used copy for $380.00! yes, three hundred eighty dollars!

I have a copy of the book and while it is nice, I like his Novice Nook free articles on chesscafe.com better-

So, instead of using that book as my "talky book" (See "An Improvement Plan" in the Novice Nook of that site) I can just use the site itself?

If you haven't finished reading all his articles yet, then that should probably work. There are a couple of things here and there that are in the book that aren't covered in the articles, but there's so much good material in the articles that the material in the book shouldn't really be missed.

Also, go to danheisman.com instead of just chesscafe.com and check out his "recommended articles". He's got a few by other authors that are worth reading, along the same lines as his Novice Nooks. Per Dan's recommendation (I recently started taking lessons from him), I just read Larry Kaufman's article about material evaluation a few days ago, and I think that's probably a good one for any beginner or higher, especially anyone who still uses the 1-3-5-9 piece values.

If you are fairly new to Chess then, "Logical Chess: Move by Move" by Irving Chernev is one book that seems to rise to the top of recommended books on this forum in my opinion. But, I would also say that before you start building any Chess library that you first check into all the free words of wisdom floating around on this website in past threads.

i too found it at amazon, there are 3 (now i guess 2 copies available used, as i just bought one;(...sorry i saw the one listed for $380 also,i got one for $12.95). good luck. as this book was highly recommended.

I currently own this book, so I will do a brief review here:

Heisman's 'Everyone's 2nd Chess Book' covers all of the key topics that a starting out player should know, covering a key gap in prior literature for players that have learned how the pieces moved but not yet developed their 'board vision' to the extent of finding combinations and tactics. A thorough study of this book will not only give you knowledge and understanding, but also direction in how exactly to improve further. Highly recommended.
