Hey i'm new to the forums but wanted the thoughts of what books are recommended.

It would help if people knew your level of play. Maybe post a game.

Does that mean you just learned the rules or have you been playing casually with friends? Do you know chess notation? There's a lot of free instruction on the Internet so it may not be necessary to buy any books just yet, but more information would help so people would know exactly what to recommend.

i know the rules i play in yahoo in beginner chess area's. i know chess notations i'm not a total beginner but i want to improve myself to become a better chess player other then just amateur. also like to know different opening cause i just usually go with queen pawn out.

In that case I’d suggest going to Chessmaster Dan Heisman’s Novice Nook at the following link. He offers a wealth of study material and it’s all free. Books can come later.

Must Haves after Reading Either Chess For Everyone or Winning Chess:

Chess for Tigers by Simon Webb

You study those books enough & play online enough, you should be pretty good. After all that, you can study any part of chess because you will have a strong foundation & great understanding of the game. I hope that helps.

The previous post should definitely take care of everything, given that money is not an issue. For those with lighter wallets (myself), either the Novice Nook column mentioned above, Chess Videos TV - The Largest Chess Video Site on the Web!, Pandolfini's Basic Endgame Course, and Silman's Complete Guide to Chess Strategy should give you a good amount of understandable material to study.

Also, I would recommend Art of Attack in Chess by Vukovic, as it is the best in the subject.
