If you have never read Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy by John Watson, then get a copy! It is one of the greatest chess books in history.

Yep, I do beleve that book is now one of the "classics". I think folks just starting to climb the Chess ladder should stick with Silman and Chernev books first though. Watson did a follow-up book to this one called- "Chess Strategy in Action".

Yes, I do not believe I have ever seen a chess book more highly reviewed than this one. While looking for some new books to get a few weeks ago, trying to get back into the game after a layoff, I came across this, read the endless, amazing reviews, and said "My god." I got my copy a couple weeks ago, and have flipped through it. Looking forward to getting all the way through it, and seeing what it has in store for me. Sitting in my Chess bag here at work 2 feet away from me.

When it comes to books new or old I still prefer
Reuben Fine, Ed Lasker, Znosko Borovsky, and Capablanca.
I once worked with a person who learned chess from Capablanca and
it appears that at least with that person, Capablanca taught his style of chess.
There are several chess books by Capablanca, and one of them is excellent,
My Chess Career.
Reuben Fine's Middle Game of Chess is still available online from a number of book dealers.

You mean you met someone who had worked with Capa before Capa died?

Yes, although my chess career is intended to be a bio, club players can learn a lot from Capa. I actually recommend a digital version because it is easier to play over the games:

The person was in his 60's, a Cuban refugee, and I was in my 20's.
He played exactly as if it were a game from "My Chess Career".

Actually, can you briefly outline what Capa's style of chess is? Or how does "a game from My Chess Career" look like? Many of us have never seen capa's books.
