Today I joined this forum!
Chess is one of my hobbies (since 1970 or so).
I've studied some books and follow the important tournaments.
Today we all watch the WCC in Mexico which brings me to a question.

I have noticed that many of us praise My 60 memorable games by Bobby Fischer. I plan to acquire this book. However, at Amazon I read that only the frist few prints have the original text and that later (algebraic) versions contain modifications. So, my question is: what is the original edition of this book.
Is this the one from Simon & Schuster NY, 1961 ISBN 0671214837 ?

I hope someone will provide us with the right answer.

Looking at this amazon.com page, the seller writeroftruth states in their description "1st printing 1969". I'd wait for further comfirmation but it looks like the book was first published in 1969. Given Fischers age at the time, the year sounds about right.

Thanks for the information that later editions may have been different from the first (few?) printings. I do not have the book but I will keep the information in mind should I decide to get it in the future.

My copy of "My 60 Memorable Games" is a 3rd print Simon & Schuster "Fireside" trade paperback dated 1969 with the isbn# of 671-21483-7. I picked it up for $20.00 or so on Ebay a while back. This book is a plenty decent enough version for me. But, I *think* I read somewhere that Bobby Fischer only consider's the first print hardback as the "official" version?

You could get a software copy from chessbase in their Fischer CD.

But the annotations on the CD would only be of author Hubner's analysis and not include a reprint of the book annotations?

I wonder which English version of My 60 Memorable Games was used as the source for this Russian language version of the book. The original descriptive notation edition, or the algebraic edition that it is stated to be inferior to the original.

At the time the book was sold from .75 cents to the list $7.95.
Reason: Over prints. The going price is $120 and up.
If you purchase the book there should be a publisher's symbol inside the book. If there is not the book is an overprint.

Covers: There are various versions of the book. Changes were made by the publisher. In one case analysis was changed to an impossible move.
See W. Winter's website. The publisher also used a different color cover
from time to time. It appears that there may have been 4 different color covers with the same Fischer photo.
In the original publication, the game Fischer - Botvinnik Olympiad 1968
the notes originally were copies from a Chess Life issue.
