Hey all, I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a book that addresses white and black square weaknesses. I find that while I can frequently recognize them, I'm not always 100 percent sure how to implement a plan to exploit them, and I know this is important!

Any suggestions welcome.

Dynamic Chess by R.N. Coles is not bad.

But something Tal once wrote is useful. He noted that whenever a player has weaknesses on one square color he is probably weak in the other squares as well.

I've been trying to find my copy of Sunil Weeramantry's Best Lessons of a Chess Coach, which has some lessons going over color weaknesses.

iirc, there are 8 lessons (games) that are loosely transcribed from actual lessons he gave to students of varying strengths- there questions and comments are included as you read. I read it using note cards to block content I hadn't read yet (which he advised, I think) and was able to read his and his students' questions and try to solve them as I went along.

The way it was written felt very personal and seemed somewhat more effective than just reading annotations. It might be worth borrowing/finding at a library.

Both "Chess Middlegame Planning" by Romanovsky and "The Art of Planning In Chess" by McDonald have illustrations of this theme. I have reviewed both of them in the books section of this website. The second book is more concentrated on this theme though both books provide useful illustrations.
