Against a proper defense, black gets either equality or an edge. In my opiniion, time is the hardest element to exploit.

But black's impatience was rewarded with a quick loss.

Indeed, if black plays it well, he gets at least equality. But the good thing (bad thing?) about humans is that they're not perfect, and make mistakes (or just don't know theory). Theoretically the Morra gambit is refuted, but I bet if you try it 100 games against 1600 rated players you can score about 80 points (provided you do play it well and you're better than your opponent)

The Morra gambit is really good, and the chance that your opponent knows it is indeed quite small.

At a high level that chance is pretty high, but at a lower level, the chance that they can refute it is pretty small. So whether I play it or not depends alot on my opponent's rating

Yea i used to always find the Morra Gambit a pain to play against.
Then i realised after 4...a6 line Black is totally fine. Some variations can lead to v.drawish endgames. Good to know if your a ''points grabber'' player and play a stronger (or at least a higher graded) player.
