Howdy,

I'm pretty much a beginner in chess but have recently become very interested in it. I know how the pieces move and some basic openings but the rest of my game is usually something spontaneous which I figure out myself, I have never read any book which covers tactics, end, or midgame or openings for that matter. What would be the best way for me to improve? Did most of you use books of some sort? If so, which ones would you recommend? Did you use YT videos/guides? A chess website?

I would appreciate any help you could offer, I'm thinking about spending maybe 2 hours per day working on this whenever I can so if anyone's up for it I'd be willing toplay you on chess.com or any site you prefer, as long as it's free. I would appreciate if you could point out some holes in my game if you could but if you have any tips on how to improve I would appreciate it.

It's free and the quicker you learn to see the board, the better off you'll be.

Start at chesscafe.com. Click the "archives" link to see their old articles, and look at Dan Heisman's Novice Nook column. It's a monthly column that goes back a few years, so there's more than 100 articles. Just start with the article on a generic study plan, which was among the first 20 or so. You should spot it easily enough from the title.

Personally, I would recommend Winning Chess Tactics by Seirawan, as well as the link which Eladar gave.
