Hey guys. I've been playing a lot of chess at FICS lately and would like to submit one of my games to their teaching ladder crew. However I cant get windows to open up the pgn so I can annotate it, which is a requirement.

I went to a half dozen sites for driver updates and registry cleaning, go through the run phase then it gets stopped because VISTA 64 bit cant run them.

Any ideas?

I know people with 64 bit VISTA systems are opening .pgn files. Help please!

Download that and it'll open the pgn .

Eh.. PGN files cannot be opened without some specific chess-related program. Chessbase is one of many examples. Personally, I use winboard for most of my PGN viewing (XBoard and WinBoard) but I recall that being specificly for 32-bits systems. Chessbase is a safe bet, there's a free version that would take care of it.

Actually pgn files can be opened with Wordpad.

Thanks guys. Chessbase did the trick. Well, let me open it anyway. Now I've just got to experiment with the program to figure stuff out.

True... but you'd be surprised how many people can't get that done, in truth I'd prefer Notepad over Wordpad in that case.

I like Textpad. But it's true - pgn files are just text, easy enough to edit by hand.
