I have the Seirawan Openings, Tactics, Strategy and Endgames books - the Tactics is probably the one I'd recommend least. Tactics seems to be something you learn by doing hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of real world chess problems - not by reading about them then seeing what Kasparov did. The book is a nice introduction to the various tactical tricks but certainly won't make you proficient in using them.
I'd try something like Polgar's 5,334 problems book, and "Winning Chess Tactics for Juniors" is a little gem of 500+ problems grouped by tactic type if you can find a copy. Also, try something like
Chess Tactics at chesstempo.com - the ability to create problem sets with the paid account is particularly useful.
