Good choices. I'd say try to solve them in your head. If you can't find the solutions after a couple of minutes, check the solutions in the back of the book. If you can't visualize why the solution works, then set it up on the board and move the pieces around. This will help you "see" the moves in your head easier later.
Did you also purchase the books that you said you were considering in your initial post? Those were some good choices, as well.
I have to disagree with Shaia. You're better off playing humans, not computers. The playing styles are completely different, so you need to get used to playing real people. You should be able to find opponents any time of day or night at FICS. I've also heard that Nunn's book is a little advanced, though I don't have it myself. But Chernev's "Logical Chess" is much more commonly recommended for beginners, so start with that.
