Someone is telling me that the queen can take as many pieces as she wants that are in her path.

Is that true?

I've looked and haven't found anything that says that.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

No piece can capture more than one opposing piece on any given move. So if my queen is on a1, you have a pawn on a5 and a rook on a6, I can play Qxa5. But I can't play Qxa6, because the queen is blocked by the pawn from reaching a6.

I could play Qxa5 on one move, and then, if the rook was still on a6, play Qxa6 on my next move.

Yes that is what I thought. They were trying to tell me the queen can blast through and take any and all pieces in her path in one fell swoop.

Yea, I think maybe your "friends" are pulling a fast one on you LOL. A Queen can MOVE any direction she wants, and take anything in any direction she can get to, but only one at a time. Maybe they learned a variant or some odd thing. There are tons of versions of chess out there that will just plain confuse a beginner.

Here is the Queen moving rule as stated by Wikipedia:

The queen can move any number of vacant squares diagonally, horizontally, or vertically. ( Rules of chess - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )

The key there is VACANT squares hehe, if something is there (a friendly or enemy piece or pawn), her movement must cease!
