You need to make time mate. There can be no short cuts to success in chess. However, when you learn the basics of a few openings you can use them against a range of different openings, and this is probably along the lines of a 'system' that you are looking for.
For example, if you learn the French and the Dutch Leningrad, there is basically nothing White can do to surprise you.
1. e4 will be met with 1 .... e6
1. d4, c4, and g3 can all be met with 1. ... f4

Alas, I've been playing 50 years and about 20 years ago realized I was not going to get past 2200 and the returns on studying were diminishing and chess was becoming too much like work! Nowadays I'm content just to play and not embarrass myself...well, not too often.

I'm going to retire early in a few months...maybe then I'll take another run at making master.
