Actually, I mis-spoke. You can play d-chess. If you go to that group, you can find others who play d-chess and matches can be played by e-mail.
And of course, you can always play against a computer. Just set-up both sides and then since the computer cannot "choose" which side, you get to choose which side to take and then have the computer make the first move. Since the game is played on an 8 x 8 board and the same pieces apply as in FIDE chess, games against computers are easy to do in the "set-up a position mode."
Chess 960 has a symmetrical position and only 960 different possible starting positions. Imagine an opening theory book of about 960 pages long, one page showing the best moves for each possible position. Opening theories would be back before long. In D-chess there are over 8.2 million different starting positions.
